[China paint information] GB "limit of harmful substances in paint for toys" has come into effect on October 1, 2010. The harmful substances in paint used in toy products sold in China must meet the limit specified in the standard. The following is an interpretation of this standard

background of the introduction of the standard

For this reason, China has issued the national standard GB limits of harmful substances in toy coatings for the first time, which puts forward mandatory requirements on the allowable limits of substances harmful to human body and the environment in toy coatings

this standard is applicable to all kinds of toy coatings, and stipulates the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging marks and other contents of toy coatings that are harmful to human body and the environment. The mandatory standard came into effect on October 1st, 2010. Suppliers who provide paint for toy manufacturers should ensure that their products meet this standard

gb standard has made specific requirements for the limit of harmful substances such as lead content, soluble metal elements, phthalates, restricted solvents and so on (see the table below). At the same time, "volatile organic compounds" are defined as any organic compounds whose initial boiling point is less than or equal to 250 ℃ under 101.3kPa standard atmospheric pressure. It also limits the content of volatile organic compounds obtained by testing the product according to the specified test method

in addition, the standard also stipulates the packaging marks of coatings: in addition to the provisions of gb/t9750, the product packaging marks that pass the inspection according to GB standards can be clearly indicated on the packaging marks; For the coating composed of two or more components, the construction ratio of each component shall be specified on the package mark or in the product manual; For the paint that needs to be diluted during construction, the dilution ratio shall be specified on the package mark or in the product manual

what problems should enterprises pay attention to in order to meet these standards

China is a big toy exporter, and its toys are sold all over the world. 1 Paint manufacturers should strictly control the content of harmful substances such as lead, soluble metal elements and phthalates in the formula during production. Control the tools and instruments used in the production process to avoid bringing harmful substances into the products, especially phthalic acid esters, which often exist in plastics as plasticizers, and the standard limit value is low. Plastic tools or tools without these restricted substances should be avoided

2. In the construction proportioning, the proportion of solvent/diluent should be controlled to avoid VOC exceeding the limit requirements, or to find alternatives to the limited solvent in the standard
